The last thing any budding artist wants is to become quickly frustrated at their attempts. This can ultimately lead to the person completely dropping the drawing altogether and never venturing again. It is sad for anyone to go down this path and I therefore give examples on how to avoid this pitfall.

Like any other profession that requires a certain level of proficiency and skills, one needs to practice before they can really take advantage of the skill. This is important in drawing.

I find that by starting with something that you can handle and control is the best way to start out. If you haven’t picked up a pencil or paper for a long time, try to get used to it by doodling. Understand how the pencil makes the mark on the paper, after all it is the aggregation of these marks that comprise of the final drawing. Try to press hard, soft and do short and long strokes. Try to become one with the pencil. The next thing to do is pick easy subjects.

I find that there is nothing better than drawing nature to get good practice. There are no hard, straight line edges when you draw a tree. The clouds are randomly shaped and have a soft wooly texture. Getting a good feel for what you have to draw will bring about all your skillsets out to the front. That is why good artists make the task so much easier.

Try to draw mountains, lakes, trees, apples, plants, animals as they are all natures subjects. It will only sharpen your drawing skills and get you to another level of drawing ability.
